Well the first Saturday of the year started off with 3 requests for assistance being received, 2 x Food box deliveries (one of which was to a neighbouring community resident) and 1 x Welfare related.

With the flurry of snow that we had today, it caused me to realign my sights to the Branston Emergency Planning Group and provide you with a little information.

For those that are not aware, I formed this Group approximately 7 years ago as part of the Branston and Mere Parish Council (BPC) to provide an emergency response capability to any major event that may affect our community. A major event; oddly enough maybe a pandemic, severe weather, air accident, flood, fire, loss of critical infrastructure or a transport incident etc. Indeed, it was having a Lincolnshire Resilience Forum (LRF) approved Emergency Plan in place that was simultaneously activated by the LRF and BPC that enabled me to swiftly react to the Covid crisis and set up the Covid Group.

It is not a fourth emergency service, but there to provide vital the initial welfare support to the community.

The Group is well established with volunteers who have received training in emergency planning, setting up Emergency Reception Centre and first aid. Additionally, with the support of the BPC it is also very well equipped to respond. If you’d like any further information or are interested in joining either please contact me or have a look on the Branston Emergency Planning FB page.

Take care and Stay Safe – Andy, Jim, Linda, Liam, Kev, Jonathan, Foxy and Joseph 👍

As proven with the pandemic it is essential that the community is prepared to respond to anything, you never know what lies ahead…….
